When Wardrobe received an invite to Lipsy’s Spring/Summer press day we couldn’t wait to see what they had in store for us (and you)…and we weren’t disappointed.
The well-known fashion brand is a fave among celebrities and ladies who love to party with their affordable but glam dresses. But judging by their new S/S collection, Lipsy have also now branched out into shoes, jewellery, bags and even bikini’s as well as their famous party dresses.
The fashion label is also fast becoming a must have for casual wear with celebs like Paris Hilton loving their velour logo tracksuits.
We were really impressed with the SS10 collection which includes key trends such as nudes, underwear as outerwear, lace, florals, tribal, denim, studs and fringing. It was a tough decision but our favourite collection has to be ‘festival fashion’, how fab are those printed t-shirts!?
The Lipsy Spring/Summer 2010 collection is available now and will continue to hit the stores throughout the Summer. Meanwhile take a look at our exclusive pics and let us know what you think!

Soldier Girl
February 7, 2010 at 7:43 pm | In Trend Forecasts | 3 CommentsTags: All Saints, Balmain, Cat Deeley, Debenhams, Fearne Cotton, Jessica Alba, Khaki, Miltary, New Look, Red Herring, Rihanna, River Island, Soldier
Stand to attention – a new trend is infiltrating stores offering a tougher alternative to this season’s nudes, feathers and nautical chic. Yes, the military look is back but thankfully it’s more wearable than in its previous guises.
Before you start raiding your wardrobe for your baggy combat trousers from your All Saints days, think again. While combat trousers are having something of a comeback, these days they are slim fitting combats-meet-biker trousers rather than their low-slung, over-sized predecessors.
For high-end inspiration look no further than Balmain; the power house behind last year’s power shoulder have pioneered the soldier girl look. Their Spring/ Summer show included skinny combat trousers teamed with ripped t-shirts and a more dressy take on the uniform look by pairing army jackets with sequinned cargo pants.
Replicate this look with some skinny seamed biker trousers from River Island (£29.99), and leather-look jacket from New Look (£35). If you’re feeling creative you could create your own ripped t-shirt by cutting holes and slashes into a plain tee of your choice.
River Island seems to be the best place to get your hands on military clothes on the high street, my favourite piece being this red Military blazer (£49.99) which gives a welcome injection of colour to an otherwise muted pallette of khaki, beige and grey.
The jacket is also available in grey, and there are other similar jackets and waistcoats in black – check out their website to see the full range.
The obvious choice of footwear to wear with this look is some slouchy, lace up boots.
Celebs have been going mad for the All Saints Military Boots (£165), with Rihanna, Jessica Alba, Fearne Cotton and Cat Deeley to name but a few spotted in a pair. You can make like the stars and get your hands on a pair online from All Saints, or be like our very own Sunny who picked up an almost identical pair from Red Herring in Debenhams for just £45!
Do you like the military trend, or will you be opting for some of this season’s softer looks?

TK Maxx’s boutique-y new shop!
February 5, 2010 at 9:20 pm | In Beauty and Events | 1 CommentTags: Karl Lagerfield, Luella, Putney, TK Maxx
TK Maxx is admittedly not the first place we go to when we’re in a hurry to find a new outfit. Trawling the endless rails of discount designer goods normally requires effort and perseverance that we don’t always have time for, however rewarding the finds.
Luckily, the guys at the Putney store have done the hard work for us by transforming their stand alone womenswear store into an easy to navigate shop which has a real boutiquey feel.
We were lucky enough to be invited to take a sneaky preview before the shop’s official re-opening tomorrow (Saturday, 6th February) and it’s fair to say we were impressed with what we saw.
Although it was still a work in progress we rifled our way through the rails coveting a gorgeous Luella bag, Karl Lagerfield sunglasses (a bargain at £19.99) and some mini hair straighteners that were much needed after a day walking around London in the drizzle!
Unfortunately the tills weren’t wired up so they’ll still be there if you head to the opening at 9am tomorrow!
They’re not the only things you have to look forward to though – along with some really impressive designer and high street bargains, the Powder Puff girls will be on hand to treat shoppers to makeovers and manicures while waiters will be serving tasty canapes and Champers. Leave your partner to recline on the comfy padded seating area at the rear of the store (or better still, at home) while you get your hands on the latest trends which as you already know includes nudes, nautical and underwear as outerwear.
This store has officially reaffirmed our love of TK Maxx – intimate enough to give it an air of exclusivity without alienating loyal customers – we can’t wait to visit again. We’ll be the ones fighting over the designer handbags…see you there!

Ahh Paris, the city of love. With Valentine’s day looming, some of you lucky ones out there might be whisked off for a romantic night.
Sadly, there’s no chance of this happening to me this year! But I can still add some Parisian beauty to my wardrobe, which is exactly what I’m planning on doing. I’ve seen some wonderful pieces with a Parisian chic theme. Here are a few things you can get for the look.
I love Paris loads, so I’ve fallen in love with this trend.

WIOW: T-shirts, Blazers & More Anchors!
February 3, 2010 at 11:49 pm | In In The Shops Now, What's In Our Wardrobe | 2 CommentsTags: Amplified Vintage, anchor jewellery, anchors, Boyfriend Blazer, Dorothy Perkins, Junk Food, Nautical Trend, New Look, Personalised name necklace, Punky Pins, Selfserviceuk, Truffleshuffle.com
It’s been a while since I’ve done a “What’s in our Wardrobe” but that doesn’t mean it’s been a while since I’ve last bought something. In fact if I did a post on all the things I’ve added to my wardrobe since my last WIOW then it would be a VERY long post indeed!
So to save you all from the boredom of having to see everything I’ve bought (and not to remind me of how much I’ve spent) here’s a few of the items that have made it safely into my wardrobe:
This Navy nautical short coat from Dorothy Perkins was a STEAL at £35- from £60 in the sale. The anchor button detailing on this coat ties it in perfectly with this seasons nautical trend. So if like me, you fancy keeping yourself warm but bang on trend then click here and check it out in the other colours too.
My obsession with skulls (yes I’m obsessed with other things apart from anchors!) continues with this longline Skull top from New Look at just £10.00-bargain. Normally i prefer my skulls on a scarf but this t-shirt reminded me of The Goonies-class film- so I just had to get it.
I have a real thing about New Look’s blazers. This is my third in a few months! The great thing about blazers which I’ve realised lately that they are great for that smart casual look-especially to wear with jeans. Unlike my other blazers this one (at £20.00) is a boyfriend fit and made from a soft jersey fabric which should come in handy when the weather gets warmer!
I’ve wanted this t-shirt ever since I saw it on Dorothy Perkins website back in Christmas time. So when I finally got round to buying it I couldn’t wait to show it off. I wore mine recently on a night out teaming it up with my black blazer, blue slim fit jeans and tan boots, worth the £18! I love the necklace motif on the t-shirt as well as the navy/white stripes which we all know by now is a massive trend for SS10.
Ignore the “I heart Gino D’Acampo’ badge which my lovely friend Priya brought me for my birthday but take a look at my funky personalised anchor necklace! My anchor necklace was from online store Punky Pins which do a fab range of personalised necklaces. I first heard about their necklaces when our very own Chloe showed us her ‘SATC Carrie-esque’ name necklace which she got from them. My personalised anchor necklace cost me £12.00 in the new year sale but i’m afraid it’s gone back to £20.00!
Last but not least- more retro tees! A lot of my retro tee purchases were made at the Clothes Show where I went crazy at the Amplified Vintage and Junk Food stalls. One of my purchases included my ‘Duran Duran’ t-shirt as worn with my necklace and badge! Since my crazy spree at the Clothes show I vowed not to buy anymore for a few months at least so how lucky (and glad) was I that for my birthday I got some lovely and most wanted retro tees! You can get your hands on some of my fab tee’s from Truffle Shuffle- my fave EVER online store.
What have you bought recently? Let us know- just type away on the comments section!

The Good, the Bad and the GaGa: Red Carpet Glamour from the Grammy’s
February 1, 2010 at 10:57 am | In Celebrity Style | 4 CommentsTags: Armani Prive, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Dolce and Gabbanna, Elie Saab, Fashion, Georges Charka, Grammy's, Judith Leiber, Katy Perry, Kaumanfranco, Lady Gaga, Lea Michelle, Phoebe Price, red carpet, Rihanna, Romona Keveza, Stephane Rolland, Taylor Swift, Zac Posen
It was ladies night at the Grammy awards last night, as Beyonce and Taylor Swift walked away with six and four awards respectively. But who were the winners in the style stakes?
As usual, there were some rather bold fashion choices on the red carpet with Lady Gaga characteristically grabbing everyone’s attention in a futuristic creation from Armani Prive. The solar system gown came complete with its own spiky metallic star ornament.
Later on in the evening, she changed into another silver creation complete with a bizarre headpiece to showcase her two awards for Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/ Electronic album.
Meanwhile, other A-Listers glittered on the red-carpet with nude, golden and silver hues seeming to be the colours of choice. Katy Perry wore a floor-length Zac Posen gown, accessorised with a jewelled Judith Leiber clutch bag and Indian bindi in a look she described as ‘channeling Indian Betty Paige princess’ on her Twitter page.
Some of my other favourite outfits came from country singer Carrie Underwood who looked elegant in a floor length pale gown from Georges Charka, and Glee actress Lea Michelle in an asymmetrical Romona Keveza mini dress.
Rihanna also tried out the feathered trend in a cream Elie Saab gown, while Taylor Swift opted for full on glamour in a glittery blue dress from Kaumanfranco.
Considering she was the star of the night, I was a little disappointed in Beyonce’s choice of a nude Stephane Rolland gown. The geometric pattern and unusual neckline proved to make her look a little broader than usual, but fortunately she made a better choice for the rest of the show – it’s just a shame Celine Dion had the same idea!
Wardrobe fail of the night? That accolade has to be shared between Britney Spears, actress Phoebe Price and Russian singer Nadeea Volianova. Spears’ choice of sheer black Dolce & Gabbanna dress and bodysuit looked cheap and unflattering, while Price opted for a silver number embellished with shells and finished with a bizarre hemline reminiscient of octopus legs…not a good look! As for Nadeea, she was obviously working with the mantra ‘less is more’ in a micro tutu, barely-there corset and silver eye make-up.
What do you think about the stars’ Grammy gowns? Who were your style winners and losers?

Generation SKINS: Steal Their Skins Style
January 28, 2010 at 6:07 pm | In Celebrity Style, Dirty Laundry, In The Shops Now, Trend Forecasts | 3 CommentsTags: Asos, A|wear, Burtons, Casio, Dorothy Perkins, e4 Skins, Farah Slacks, Floral trend, grunge, JD Sports, Kaya Scodelario, Lipsy, Lyle and Scott, Miss Selfridge, New Look, Nike, Power Dressing, Preppy style, punk, Red Herring at Debenhams, River Island, Rock Chic, Rokit.co.uk, Skins, Skins series 4, Skins style, Topman, Topshop, Urban Outfitters, Vivienne Westwood
It seems like we’ve waited an age but tonight it’s back on our screens (E4 10pm). I am of course talking about the brilliant SKINS. What’s not to love? Sex, drugs, rock ’n’ roll….at the age of 16!
Series 4 see’s the return of last years gang: Cook, Freddie, JJ, Effy, Naomi, Pandora, Thomas, Emily and Katie aka The Skins second generation.
Here at Wardrobe we HEART Skins. We also heart the fashion on Skins (check out our Effy/Kaya Scodelario post from last year) especially how each characters personality is mirrored through their sense of style. In the first generation of Skins, you had Chris in his Acid Brights to reflect his fun-loving carefree attitude and Cassie in her feminine and eccentric outfits showing us her kooky and dreamy nature. From the second generation we’ve already seen Naomi’s androgynous mismatched style to Cook’s retro mod inspired look.
To welcome the return of Skins we’ve taken an even closer (but sneaky) look at the new series character style and how you can recreate their look for less…
Cook’s style can only be described as “mod inspired granddad chic…but cooler”. In the last series his retro style consisted of Lyle and Scott polo shirts (top button buttoned), beige/stone/grey Farah slacks, knitted V neck jumpers and vintage sports jackets. This series his love for designer brands seems to have continued but above is how you can copy his style on the high street: Denim jacket @ Topman £40.00, Red Herring grandad jumper @ Debenhams was £20.00 now £15.00, Red polo shirt @ ASOS £14.00 and Grey Chino trousers @ Burtons £25.00
Aaaah Skins original style icon Effy Stonem, we predict major style envy once again! Last series we saw Effy totally rock the grungy biker look- think blacks, long tops worn as dresses, fishnet tights, chain necklaces and biker boots. We hope for more of the same this series! With grunge/rock chic a continuing trend this season the high street is full of “Effy-esque” pieces like above: Foil Print Skull Tee @ New Look £18.00, Grey acid Jeggings @ Miss Selfridge £24.00, Set of 7 bangles @ New Look £15.00, Row of chains necklace @ ASOS £15.00 and Black sequin swing top @ Miss Selfridge was £32.00 NOW £22.00
Lesbian twin Emily couldn’t be more different from her sister- in more ways than one. Emily’s preppy style is very sweet and cute with a twist- nothing like ‘Gossip Girl’ preppy. Her simple outfits are always full of colour (in particular coloured tights) and prints yet still remaining funky. To get her look: Buttoned ribbed vest @ Dorothy Perkins £12.00, Heart shaped watch necklace @ Urban Outfitters £24.00, Silk bow skirt @ New Look £25.00, Black brogues @ Dorothy Perkins £32.00 and Checked ruffle playsuit @ Topshop £50.00
Heart-throb Freddie got the girl in the last series and I’m sure his dress sense played a part in that! Freddie’s style is very much ’skater boy’ with a little bit of indie thrown in- loose tees, zipped up hoodies, checked shirts, low-rise jeans, baggy shorts etc. His style may be casual but it certainly does not go unnoticed. Copy his style above: Dead Texas T-shirt @ Topman £14.00, Purple zipped up hoody @ Burton £18.00, Relaxed worker jean @ Burtons £35.00, Multi wrap bracelet @ Topman £6.00, Grey checked trilby @ Topman £16.00 and Gun metal dog tag necklace @ ASOS £8.00
Aaaw little JJ! At the end of series 3 we saw magic loving JJ’s confidence grow which will certainly be reflected in his series 4 wardrobe. Like the other Skins lads his look is also quite casual, hardly seen without his zipped up hoody and geometric print t-shirts. This series we’re expecting a bit more colour in JJ’s wardrobe as we can see from this sneaky pic… SoulCal zip up hoody @ Republic £29.99, King of Clubs t-shirt @ New Look £10.00, Red Herring straight leg jeans @ Debenhams was £25.00 NOW £18.75, Blue Reindeer t-shirt @ River Island £25.00 and Casio digital timer watch @ ASOS £25.00
The other twin: Katie. Katie’s style has always been more brash than her twin sister Emily’s. The last series saw (ex?) WAG Katie in leopard and other bold prints and colours. Her look is more ’sexier’ shall we say than the other Skins girls- as in more obvious sexy. With animal print another big trend during the filming of Skins we’re sure we’ll be seeing Katie in more leopard print pieces as well as her rocking the 80’s power dressing trend. Get Katie’s look: Studded denim corset (as seen on Katie) @ Lipsy was £35.00 NOW £20.00, Statement pearl necklace @ Miss Selfridge £30.00, Animal print tulip skirt @ A|Wear £25.00, Red Power sleeve tube dress @ Dorothy Perkins £22.00, Leopard print tights @ New Look £5.00, Knitted pearl crop jumper @ Topshop £40.00
When we were introduced to Naomi in the last series we couldn’t help but fall in love with her unique style. Her punky (Westwood inspired) androgynous outfits just looked effortlessly cool-just like the rest of the cast!- and she definitely pulled off clashing prints. Mixing tartan checks with flowers and stripes- she rocked them all well. We might LOL at her name (Naomi Campbell lol) but there’s nothing funny about her style. We hope to see more of her punky clashing style with a bit of noughties grunge thrown in: Tartan checked shirt @ Topshop £28.00, Floral print blazer @ ASOS £55.00, Love cropped tee @ Miss Selfridge £18.00, Wavy spotted shorts @ Topshop £35.00, Denim short dungarees @ ASOS £35.00 and Red Herring Black/grey stripe top @ Debenhams £11.00
Pandora’s style is probably one of the hardest Skins style to copy on the high street. Her style is very much “kiddish with lots of sweet quirky colourful pieces”. In series 3 her outfits consisted of frog prints, 70’s style floral dresses, colourful tights, other weird animal/fruit printed pieces and soft pastel colours mixed with acid brights. Pandora’s outfits can only get brighter and crazier in series 4…her innocent clashing style is deffo one for the brave! Vintage/Charity shops and kids shops that do bigger sizes is where most of her last seasons wardrobe came from but here’s how you can get her look on the high street: Heart embroidered Cardi @ Miss Selfridge £32.00, Gingham floral drape skirt @ Topshop £25.00, 70’s paisley dress @ Rokit.co.uk £35.00, Minnie Mouse tee @ Rokit.co.uk and 3pk fruit socks @ New Look £4.00
Last but not least: Thomas. Last series Thomas’s style was very much thrown together, casual pieces with lots of layering. But we expect things will be different this series especially with him ‘working’ in the clubs. Series 4 will see Thomas’s style influenced by 80’s old skool (hip-hop) in particular retro sportswear and accessories: Monochrome checked scarf @ River Island £7.99, Nike reversible windrunner jacket @ JDsports £54.99, Records print t-shirt @ ASOS £10.00, Dark indigo bootcut jeans @ Topman £36.00 and blue trapper (dappy) hat @ New Look £5.00
Don’t forget the new series of Skins starts tonight (28th Jan 2010) 10pm on E4…. WE CAN’T WAIT!!
Which characters style gives you Wardrobe Envy? Will you be tuning in tonight?

Top trends for spring and summer
January 27, 2010 at 11:08 pm | In Celebrity Style, In The Shops Now, Trend Forecasts | 2 CommentsTags: Asos, Aztec, Denim, Diesel, Floral, French Connection, Gap, Jessica Alba, Lauren Conrad, leggings, Megan Fox, Miss Selfridge, Prints, Shorts, Socks, Spring/Summer 2010, stripes, Topshop, Vila
So whether you’re looking for an entire outfit for spring, or a staple piece for summer, take a peek at our trend report.
Shorts
One trend that will be hitting the high street this summer is shorts. But not just any kind of shorts, no we’re talking short shorts and hot pants.
Even though the prospect of any kind of sunshine this summer may seem slim, shorts look set to be a key trend.
They were all over the place last summer with celebs like Pixie Lott and Daisy Lowe donning them for festivals, but be prepared to bare all again this year.
And if you want to get ahead of the fashion pack, buy yours early and team them with chunky tights and knits for a cosy but cool solution to the cold.
Socks
Ok, so we all wear socks. But this spring and summer, our feet can not only be kept warm and dry, but also stylish and completely on trend.
A number of celebs have been seen wearing them and our favourite stores have already pulled on the trend and stocked up on socks.
Patterns and prints
One trend that already looks like it will be huge this summer is prints. With flowers and animal prints, stripes and abstract patterns, prints can add a little bit of va va voom to any old outfit.
Whether it’s a floral t-shirt, a leopard print playsuit or some Aztec leggings, prints can be worn with anything, anywhere.
And with so many to choose from, this really is a trend that easily translates from the catwalk to the high street, and to our wardrobes.
Denim
Ok, so when has denim ever been out of fashion? Well the answer is never, but this year there are several ways to update that classic wardrobe staple that everyone has.
One idea to update your look and keep your denim decent is rips. They go great with the rock chick trend, and can also make a cute outfit look a little cooler. The best part about it is you don’t even need to buy a new pair, just cut up an old pair you don’t wear anymore.
Another great way to jazz up your jeans is studs. Also on trend, studs can make any jeans look more edgy and just like rips if you’re a bit short on funds, you can buy them and put them on yourself. Easy.
Another trend that can apply to jeans, trousers, or even jackets is patches. Covering shoulders, knees, elbows, and anywhere really, patches can cover up a multitude of sins. Stemming from the trend for jodhpurs, patched have made their way on to jeans and trousers and can already be found in most stores.
Some other trends already featured in Wardrobe which you should definitely look out for this year are the nautical trend, which has sailed its way back into fashion this year, feathers, which are a great transition from fur which was huge last winter and the nude trend, which has already taken over most of the high street stores in one form of another.
So whether its shorts, florals, leapord prints or socks, theres something for everyone in 2010.

Shake your Tail Feather
January 26, 2010 at 11:33 pm | In Celebrity Style, In The Shops Now, Trend Forecasts | 3 CommentsTags: accessorize, Asos, Fearne Cotton, feathers, Ke$ha, Lipsy, Olivia Palermo, rare, Reiss, The Saturdays, Topshop
For a luxurious take on this season’s textured trend you’ll have to ruffle a few feathers. Literally.
From the catwalks to celebs and now to the high street, Feathers are set to stick around for Spring/ Summer adding a certain opulence to our wardrobes.
The Saturdays, Ke$ha, Rihanna and Fearne Cotton have all been seen rocking this trend, which can manage to make an outfit look edgy or ethereal depending on how you wear them. One thing is for sure though, you definitely shouldn’t go OTT, restrict feathers to one item!
The Saturdays made their feathers look edgy and sexy in the VIP Studded Feather dress from Lipsy. At £260 for the black version it is an investment buy for anyone looking for a different take on the LBD. Alternatively the white and gold version as seen on Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent is currently on sale at £125 – get it while you can!
Feathered skirts are also everywhere. This laser feather skirt from Rare (£59) is similar to that as seen on The City style icon Olivia Palermo.
For daytime chic, I’ve fallen in love with the Reiss Litzy Feather gilet, in the sale at ASOS for £77 (was £110). With its patent waist belt and shiny plumes, it adds glamour to the simplest of daytime outfits but it’s selling out fast!
If you want to try out the trend, but are feeling a little less brave then a pretty feathered clutch or headband are the perfect accessories. This nude feathered handbag from ASOS (£25) incorporates this season’s nude tones too, making it a great addition to your S/S wardrobe.
Meanwhile, Accessorize has feathered headbands in varying colours and styles, like this Arriba Feather Statement Alice band (£12).
What do you think of the feathered trend? Will you be buying trying it out?
