‘Woman of the Year’ Rihanna wows at the Glamour Awards

The Glamour magazine awards took place in New York last night, and as usual Rihanna picked an outfit that has got everybody talking.
The 21-year-old ditched her more recent uniform of see-through fabrics, PVC and black for this white fish-tail Stephane Rolland gown.

Rihanna was named Woman of the Year at the Glamour awards
Rihanna was named Woman of the Year at the awards, but joked she was unable to climb the stairs onto the stage to make her speech as her dress was too tight. Instead she had to enter from the backstage area.
“As usual, I decided to wear the tightest dress I could find,” she laughed as she made her way onto the stage.
“I am shaking right now. I am so nervous. But I am overwhelmed and honoured over this honour.”
The dress may have people divided, but it definitely confirms Rihanna’s style status and ensured that all eyes were on her!

Wardrobe Raid: Cheryl Cole’s Embellished Dress
November 4, 2009 at 4:32 pm | In Celebrity Style, In The Shops Now | 5 CommentsTags: Cheryl Cole in Matthew Williamson, Cheryl Cole X Factor dress, Dannii Minogue X Factor, Matthew Williamson, Matthew Williamson beaded shift dress, oli.co.uk
Here at Wardrobe we are massive X Factor fans- if you haven’t guessed already. We can’t get enough of it! Every weekend we sit there discussing the performances, arguing about Jedward, laughing at Jedward, drooling over Olly (!) and of course commenting on the outfits.
How envious are we regarding Cheryl and Dannii’s wardrobe!
Back in the audition’s process, I remember seeing Cheryl Cole in a BEAUTIFUL cream embellished dress. After a quick google search I saw that it was a Matthew Williamson dress and that it wasn’t even available yet! Cheryl’s obviously got friends in high places.

A couple of weeks ago me and my friend saw the actual dress in Selfridges and we were in love (again). Up close the dress is as beautiful as it appeared on-screen. It’s a real statement shift dress with a gorgeous beaded/embellished neckline. I’d have bought it there and then if it wasn’t for the very expensive price tag, eek. However if you can afford it (the full £1,495!) then you can buy the very same dress online here.

The Matthew Williamson Dress on the catwalk
If like me it’s a little bit out of your price range then fear not. We have found a similar budget version for you- yay! We found this gem on Oli.co.uk and for THIRTY ENGLISH POUNDS (sorry got a little excited there) it really is as cheap as chips!

AX Paris Jewel Shift Dress @ Oli.co.uk £30.00
It’s not quite the same as the Matthew Williamson number but for that price you can’t really complain. We’ve made you a total saving of *drum roll please* £1,465! You can buy the budget version of the dress here, but be quick as it’s selling out fast.
What do you think of both dresses?

Supermarket Sweep
November 1, 2009 at 6:09 pm | In In The Shops Now, Wardrobe Wishlist | Leave a CommentTags: Asda George, F&F Tesco, Matalan, Peacocks, Primark, Supermarket clothing
My shopping list: Bread ✓ Milk ✓ Crisps ✓ Cheese ✓ Ribena ✓ New shoes ✓
New shoes on my shopping list i hear you ask? If you weren’t already aware then thanks to supermarkets like Asda and Tesco we can incorporate shopping for clothes alongside our weekly shop. Though if you were like me then the idea of getting your clothes at the local supermarket was a bit off-putting. But it’s fair to say now that the supermarkets have really stepped up their game in the fashion stakes.
We’ve already mentioned on Wardrobe how impressed we are at Asda’s clothing brand George, a favourite with shoppers. With Christmas coming up and the recession still hurting our pockets it’s no wonder that we’re all turning towards the cheaper options to get our fashion fix.
With a lot of focus on the usual ‘affordable’ shops like Primark, Matalan, Peacocks and Asda George, I thought i’d take a look at Tesco’s clothing range after hearing about it through the grapevine.
I have to say on first impressions i’m really impressed. There is certainly something for everyone. Some great fashionable pieces especially in the Liquorish and F&F brand! Here’s a few items that are definitely going on my wishlist:

Feather Print Top @ Tesco £12.00

F&F Signature Leather Ankle Boot @ Tesco £28.00

F&F Signature Studded Tunic @ Tesco £20.00

F&F Stud Detail Dress @ Tesco £10.00

F&F Checked Duffle Coat @ Tesco was £35.00 now £30.00
Some of the items above are online exclusives which you can buy here or you can pop down to your local Tesco’s. From what i’ve seen lately there is nothing off-putting about buying supermarket clothes anymore…
What are your views on supermarket clothing?

The Winter Must Have: Military Coats/Jackets
October 27, 2009 at 4:49 pm | In Celebrity Style, In The Shops Now, Trend Forecasts | 2 CommentsTags: Asda George, Asos, A|wear, Cheryl Cole Fight for this love, Cheryl Cole Military Jacket, Dahlia, Dorothy Perkins, F&F Tesco, Military trend, New Look, Red Herring at Debenhams, River Island, Topshop

The military trend has always been a favourite of mine. Gold/brass buttons, braid detailing, the colours- everything about this trend is HOT.
And now thanks to Cheryl Cole, military chic is one of this season’s most popular trends. Seen working it on the video and her X Factor performance of her new single ‘Fight for this love’, the military jacket is now a must-have item this winter.
With the weather getting colder, the high street is full of military jackets and coats to keep you warm yet bang on trend.
Here are some of our favourite military cover ups that have definitely got our attention:

Poppy Red Military Coat @ New Look £50.00

Red Herring Asymmetric Military Coat @ Debenhams £80.00

Military Tulip Coat @ River Island £74.99

Navy Trophy Jacket @ Dorothy Perkins £80.00

Red Military Coat (also available in grey) @ A|wear £75.00

Military Style Jacket @ New Look £35.00

F&F Short Military Jacket (available in 3 colours) @ Tesco was £40.00 now £35.00

Black Military Coat @ Asda George £25.00

Braided Military Jacket @ ASOS £55.00

Dahlia Aline Contrast Trim Military Coat @ ASOS £100.00
Has Cheryl Cole inspired you to bring out the Military Chic in you?

Q Awards – Red Carpet Hits and Misses
October 26, 2009 at 8:02 pm | In Celebrity Style | 5 CommentsTags: Amy Winehouse, Fearne Cotton, Kate Nash, Lily Allen, pixie lott, Q Awards, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Steel Panther
A bevy of music stars hit the red carpet this afternoon as the Q Awards were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. All were dressed to impress but while some got it right, there were also a couple of fashion faux pas – and we don’t just mean Wino’s new £5,000 boobs!
HIT

Fearne Cotton
Fearne Cotton showcased her quirky style with this bandeau dress layered over a long sleeve top, and some leopard print platform boots. On anyone else it might not work, but in my opinion this look is a hit!
HIT

Sophie Ellis Bextor
Sophie Ellis Bextor looked sleek and sophisticated in this puff-sleeved black dress and clutch bag.
HIT

Lily Allen
In this white bejewelled jumper dress and leggings Lily managed to look just the right side of glam for a daytime do. Loving the new hair!
HIT

Pixie Lott
Pixie Lott accessorises her mini dress perfectly with a simple black clutch and white flowers in her hair.
MISS

Kate Nash
I never normally have a bad word to say about Kate, and while it is nice to see her back on the red carpet, I can’t help but think she’d have looked much better in one of her vintage dresses! Admittedly it was a daytime event so not quite as dressy as other awards ceremonies but no woman should ever wear leggings with a top that short!
MISS

Amy Winehouse
Amy’s renowned for wearing her push-up bras, but I really don’t think there’s any need to wear one anymore! That neck line, belt and push-up bra all mean that our attention is immediately drawn to her new surgically enhanced breasts – obviously what Wino wanted, but it’s a miss from us!
MISS

Steel Panther
Words literally can’t describe how bad these outfits are…the patterened tights, the neon, the headbands…Steel Panther definitely take the award for worst outfit of the day! Thankfully a quick google search of the band reveals they’re a parody rock group so they don’t really dress like this!

Birmingham’s got Style!
October 24, 2009 at 11:20 pm | In Beauty and Events | 2 CommentsTags: Beverley Knight, Birmingham style awards, Dylan Jones, Emma Willis, Fashion, GQ, Kate Lawler, Malmaison, Matt Willis, Ozzy Osbourne, Rewired PR, Sharon Osbourne, style birmingham, Suzanne Virdee

(l-r) Sunny, Steph, Bhav and Chloe at the Style Awards
A plethora of celebs and fashionistas flocked to Birmingham on Thursday night as it hosted it’s third annual Style Awards.
Us Wardrobe ladies were lucky enough to be invited along to celebrate all things stylish in the UK’s second city. We were thrilled to be given the opportunity to glam up and rub shoulders with our favourite Brummie celebs (or just gawp at Matt Willis from our table!)
We were greeted in true style, walking across the red carpet to discover that we’d been given the best seats in the house – table one, right next to the stage! I don’t know what we did to deserve such a great view but we definitely weren’t complaining, although it meant our four faces were frequently shown on the big screen as the awards were being handed out, much to our amusement and embarrassment!
After a delicious three-course meal, the awards were underway. Hosted by GQ editor Dylan Jones, and with guest presenters including MTV presenter Emma Willis and Midlands Today’s finest Suzanne Virdee, they showcased what a stylish city Birmingham has become in recent years.
A special video from Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne and a surprise performance from Birmingham’s Most Stylish Celebrity Beverley Knight ensured the event had real star status and topped off what was a great night out.
Beverley showed she was a deserving winner in a purple bodycon dress with a frill detail and black tights (excuse the quality of the photograph!)

Beverley Knight made a surprise appearance
Meanwhile, BB3 winner and Kerrang! Radio DJ Kate Lawler didn’t impress us so much with her outfit. Yes Kate, you do have amazing abs…and yes, tiny bra tops, fur jackets and sequin leggings are all in fashion this season…but all together it just looked a little too try-hard and OTT for an awards ceremony.

BB3 winner Kate Lawler
After the awards we headed over to Malmaison – winner of the Most Stylish place to Drink and Stay – for the official after party. With free drinks, DJ’s from Heart FM and a few ‘celebs’ (but no Matt Willis, boooo!) it was just our sort of thing. If only we didn’t have work the next morning!

Sunny, Bhav and Steph at the after party
Nevertheless a great night was had by all and it was good to see Birmingham being credited as a truly stylish destination! Many thanks to Rewired PR and especially Tara Tomes for the invite, hopefully we’ll be back next year!

Uncover Aussie in Birmingham
October 21, 2009 at 4:08 pm | In Beauty and Events | 11 CommentsTags: Aussie Hair Care, Bad Apple Hair salon, Beauty
Everybody loves getting their hair done and being pampered, so when Wardrobe was invited along to a pampering sesh courtesy of Aussie hair care we were pretty excited!
I loved Aussie products before and I’ve always got some 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor conditioner in my bathroom but the event was a good way of trying some other products which I and the other girls hadn’t used before.
Uncover Aussie have been hosting pampering sessions across the country and their last stop was Birmingham.
So Chloe, Sunny and I took three of our friends along to the Bad Apple Hair salon to get our hair washed with those lovely Aussie products and styled by the team at the salon. For those of you in Birmingham, the salon is situated in Burlington Arcade, just off New Street.

Chloe, Sunny and me (we missed Steph)

Us with our friends Mel, Sophie and Priya
As you can see, when we arrived we were handed drinks, including a nice glass of champagne which just kept getting refilled throughout the night! I honestly don’t think my glass was ever completely empty. So 10/10 for the hospitality! They even spoilt us with some very tasty wraps and platefuls of brownies. You won’t be surprised to hear that they were all gone by the end of the night.
When it was our turn to get done up, we first had a consultation with our stylist about what we wanted to have done. I have really short hair but I hardly ever make a big effort to style it! So I basically left it in the stylists hands.
There were lots of Aussie products being used that night, including Miracle Moist shampoo and conditioner and Real Volume shampoo and conditioner, both of which are very very good. If you’ve ever used Aussie products, you’ll know that they smell divine. They really do leave your hair smelling gorgeous and for a really long time after you’ve washed your hair too.
I love the little head massages that accompany getting your hair washed and the one from Bad Apple Hair was very relaxing indeed. Coupled with the free champagne, I was in pampering heaven.
And after that it was off to the stylists chair.

Me and my lovely stylist Pippa

All smiles!

Priya getting her 'messy' do
So one by one we got our hair done. Most of us asked for something just a bit different although Sophie wanted some volume put into her hair and Mel wanted her hair a little bit curly as opposed to how straight she normally has it. With the help of some magical blow drying and the Aussie products, we were all pretty pleased with the results.

Some nice Aussie products we got to take home with us

We liked our do's lots

Are you a fan of Aussie products? If not, are you inspired to try any?
