The Wardrobe Guide To A/W10 Party Dresses

15 Dec

For many of us Christmas time equals a lot of parties and nights out (what a hard life some of us lead…)

With the party season upon us it’s time to face the hardest task known to us girls this time of the year- finding the perfect party dress of course! Ok so that might be a slight exaggeration but it really is a stressful ‘mission’, trying to find the right dress that makes people go ‘wow’ for all the right reasons. So to help take some of the stress away from you, here’s a little guide on some the hottest dresses and trends to get you in the Christmas party mood!

The LBD (little black dress): Still the ‘failsafe’ dress of them all, the Little Black Dress is a definite wardrobe staple. The timeless classic doesn’t have to be boring- pair with some coloured heels like Kristin Cavallari or opt for textures such as lace, velvet or sequins. If you’re digging out last years LBD then why not accessorise using this seasons key trends to update it- nobody will know!

Kristin Cavallari knows how to work the LBD

Dora slash bust detail dress @ Boohoo.com £15.00

F&F party dress @ Clothing at Tesco £25.00

Black sequin babydoll dress @ Dorothy Perkins £45.00

Velvet: It was a big trend on the catwalks and now velvet has made its way onto the high street with celebs such as Fearne Cotton rocking the trend on the red carpets. The key to wearing a velvet dress is to keep the rest of your look simple- let the dress do the talking. To bring out the grungy but glam vibe just add a touch of vampy make up to really top off your look.

The LRD: We mentioned this one Wardrobe a few weeks ago but this season the Little Red Dress is a winter fave amongst the fashionistas. Nothing screams ‘Christmas’ than the colour red so if black is too boring or safe for you then opt for the LRD and stand out from the crowd!

Dannii Minogue (with X Factor winner Matt Cardle!) opts for a red dress

Peter Pan Collars: Again if you have been reading Wardrobe (we’re totally on the ball) you will have realised  how much we have loved the return of the Sixties this season. There’s something effortlessly sexy about the 60’s and the hottest way to nail the Sixties style this party season is via ‘Peter Pan’ collared dresses. Dresses with embellished collars are perfect if you like a bit of bling or add coloured tights for that proper 60’s vibe. I don’t know about you but I think i’ve found my party dress trend!

Diana Vickers opts for a coloured velvet dress with 'peter pan' collars

Embellished peter pan collared dress @ Warehouse £60.00

Love Label Peter Pan Collar Lace Dress @ Very £35.00

Heart Peter Pan dress @ A|wear £40.00

Black embellished collar dress @ Miss Selfridge £50.00

True Romance: Although many of us have been embracing the tougher trends this season such as military and rock chic, the romantic trend hasn’t gone unnoticed. Those fed up of dark colours have opted for feminine glam with softer shades and fabrics. So if you don’t want to go back to black then show off your romantic side this Christmas.

Pearl Lowe Tracey beaded pleated dress @ Peacocks £50.00

The One Shoulder: When all the hottest celebs such as Cheryl Cole are spotted in one then you know it’s a trend to follow! With the high street awash with one shouldered dresses this looks like the dress to be seen in. This is also the perfect way to tie in all of this years and last years favourite trends such as sequins and lace with an A/W 2010 twist. AX Paris have the best selection of one shoulder dresses online and the prices aren’t bad either…

Cheryl Cole's one shouldered Emilio Pucci dress = HOT!

Ladies angel sleeve Georgette dress @ Peacocks £20.00
