The Golden Globe Awards 2011- Steal The Looks

17 Jan

We’re into awards season now which can only mean one thing… ogling lots of lovely dresses on the red carpet.

We always have fun checking out the winners and losers on the red carpet, but this year at the Golden Globes there were so many fantastic dresses that it was hard to really pick any losers, perhaps some were a bit on the boring side. What we did see were a lot of clear trends and it’ll be interesting to see wether those trends carry on throughout the rest of the red carpets.

Going Green with envy

Like her or loathe her, Angelina Jolie is always glamourous on the red carpet. She, along with Mila Kunis and Catherine Zeta-Jones were all sporting some gorgeous green dresses.

Elizabeth Moss Golden Globes 2011

I can’t get my hands on a Vera Wang or a Versace alas, but there are these alternate dresses for all occasions if you want to go green too.

Kill two trends at once with this maxi dress, at bargain price too!

Barry M also do a great shade of green in their nail paints. I have Racing Green and I love it.

Putting the Red into red carpet

The red dress is something we’ve always loved here and it seems Mad Men co-stars have been sharing style tips as they both ended up in some drop dead red dresses.

Christina Hendricks Golden Globes 2011

Even Johnny Depp can't keep his eyes off Christina Hendricks

There are so many red dresses around. If you’re on a budget you could try this short chiffon dress from ASOS.

If you’ve got some more cash to splash and want a truly red carpet dress, then Coast have got this maxi.

The most popular shades on the carpet seemed to be pastels, blush pinks and nudes. Each dress had something different to offer than the last though, but my favourites were Megan Fox and Michelle Williams, who looked uber cute with her crop.

Cooler than the Red Dress

29 Oct

When it comes to party outfits, it’s all too easy to opt for the failsafe LBD for a classic and timeless look. However, if you want to stand out from the crowd this winter take note from the celebs below who prove that it’s all about the LRD (Little Red Dress).

Simple yet sexy, the LRD makes a statement without the need for fussy accessories or too much effort. Much like the LBD, a red dress will also become a wardrobe staple as everyone always loves a Lady In Red!

You may be unsure that red will work for you, but as Alexa, Georgia May and Michelle show, there is a little red dress to suit all skin tones.

Georgia May Jagger matched her lippie to this gorgeous lace trim red dress at a party, while Megan Fox took it a step further matching her LRD to the red carpet at a premiere earlier this year.

Red Carpet: MOBO AWARDS 2010 (& Some Professor Green)

21 Oct

Another award show, another red carpet.

Last night it was the turn of the MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) awards which took place in Liverpool. Celebrating the award shows 15th anniversary were a host of musicians, footballers, celebrities and er WAGs. It was an impressive array of sharp tailoring, trainers, sequins and lots of glamour on the red carpet.

Scouse WAG Alex Curran ‘scored a screamer for the home team’ and looked stunning in her leopard print mini and cute bow heels.

Stevie G's missus: Alex Curran

Also proving that leopard print is THE print for this season was X Factor ‘reject’ Gamu Nhengu who teamed her velvet LBD with leopard print heels. Go Gamu!

The one that Cheryl didn't pick: Gamu Nhengu

Black was the colour on the red carpet with winners of the night JLS looking dapper in their suits. They won ‘Best UK Act’ and ‘Best Album’.

JLS *screams*

Sheree Murphy is that a McQueen clutch we see?!

Chek out the shoulders on Co-host Alesha Dixon's dress!

Winners of the night Tinie Tempah and N-Dubz also looked very smart. Both these acts have had a great year, we love them here at Wardrobe!

Ooh la la la laaa FRISKY. Yes it's man of the moment: Tinie Tempah

No red carpet is complete without some sequins and boy were there lots of sequins on display…

'Bootylicious' Michelle Williams

Preeya 'Amira' Kalidas: very blingtastic

Newcastle footballer Joey Barton's WAG: Amanda Harrington

Now who remembers scouse girl group ‘Atomic Kitten’? Course you all do, don’t lie *winks* If you do remember them then i’m sure you’ll be just as surprised as we were when we saw this next pic. How different does Natasha Hamilton look! Or is it just us?

Last but not least, winner of UK Hip Hop/Grime Act, Professor Green. For the rest of the nights winners click here.

He's Pro, he's no intermediate: Professor Green

Now while we’re on the subject of Professor Green, I went to see him live a few weeks ago in Birmingham. Me and Chloe had waited for this since we booked our tickets back in June but literally a few hours before the gig she fell ill 😦 Luckily for me, I managed to get a few Pro fans together. Next time Chloe!

We love our music here at Wardrobe and go to many gigs and concerts but I felt I had to write about this one. I knew of the artist Professor Green whilst at university but it wasn’t until us Wardrobe ladies went to see Lily Allen (we heart her) live last November that I would become smitten with his music.

It was the night I became (oh dear) ‘obsessed’ with the song Just Be Good To Green.  It is my song of 2010 and the year isn’t over yet! Check out the video below, if only our smokey eyes looked like Lily’s…

The gig itself was amazing, which was lucky considering we were in what can only be described as the ‘worlds longest queue’.

First on stage was support act and friend, Ed Drewett who performed his new debut single ‘Champagne Lemonade‘ as well as a cover of The Wanted- All Time Low. I have to say his new single is stupidly catchy “he buys you Champagne, I buy you lemonade, makes him something of a Casanova”….

First dodgy pic of the night: Ed Drewett and someone's big head

Next up was an epic set from DJ IQ. It was grimey beyond words. Me and my friends absolutely loved it! It really got the crowd pumped and was a welcome distraction to waiting for the Professor to get on stage. Once again sorry for the rubbish pictures but it’s hard to take a good snap when you’re jumping up and down!

Dodgy pic number 2: It's DJ IQ!

After an epic build up it was time for Professor Green to come on and do his thing and boy was it worth the wait. I only had to wait till the second song for my fave and I have to tell you, I was buzzing *grins*. The gig consisted of him bossing the crowd with songs off his wicked album “Alive Till I’m Dead“, a cover version of ‘Billionaire’ and old fave Upper Clapton Dance.

He was then joined back on stage with pal Ed Drewett for ‘I Need You Tonight’ before finishing the gig with his new single ‘Monster’- with a surprise appearance from singer/rapper Example!  After the gig I couldn’t resist getting myself a ‘Professor Green’ t-shirt to add to my collection of music tees.

Dodgy pic number 3: Looking too cool on stage (LOL at the random hand)

Dodgy pic number 4: Pro watching those Brum kids that love to dance...

So if you’re contemplating going to see Professor Green live then I hope this post sways you. Not only is his music capturing our imaginations we love his retro label loving style. If like Pro you’re a fan of baseball jackets then get yourself on ASOS who have a wide selection of jackets on sale.

Professor Green, Wardrobe salutes you *salute*
